Sedans and coupes have dominated the sales charts since the beginning of the automotive industry over one hundred years ago, but not anymore. If you look at the charts of the five hottest selling vehicles for 2018, four of them are crossovers, and the other one is an electric car. Hottest is a relative term, so this isn’t purely based on sales numbers, although that chart looks similar. But when you look at sales volume increases, and what the buzz is, USA today says these are the top 5.
- Jeep Compass
- Tesla Model 3
- Subaru Crosstrek
- Honda Pilot
- Toyota Tacoma
You’ll notice there’s not a single sedan or coupe, at least not one with an internal combustion engine. Look for this trend to continue and accelerate in 2019 and beyond.
