Rhode Island BMW History
BMW started in Rhode Island at Competition Imports in Newport, which was owned by Dick Gadoin and his son Richard. In 1978 they opened Inskip Auto Center in Warwick and BMW was one of their main brands. They ran both dealerships until 2005 when the Inskip Auto Mall was sold to the Penske Automotive Group. That BMW dealership is now BMW of Warwick. The younger Gadoin, Richard, held on to the Newport BMW store which had by now moved into a larger building. In 2014, Richard Gadoin Jr sold the BMW of Newport dealership to the Grieco Auto Group who owns it currently.
