The New Land Rover Discovery – Taking You Anywhere in Style, Comfort and Safety
By Robert Alvine
The Land Rover Discovery is an iconic SUV – it was the auto maker’s first four-wheel driven family car back in the 1980’s and its reiterations never stopped amazing with the comfort, style and power offered. Each new generation of Discovery models packed more power, added more sophistication and enlarged the range of comfort and tech features, until the latest, state of the art generation was launched: the 2020 Discovery SUV, with extraordinary comfort and connectivity in the cabin, superior towing capacity, a rugged and classy body and a reliable safety suit.
Trim Levels, Powertrain and Drivetrain Features for the Personalized Land Rover Discovery that You Really Own
The new Land Rover Discovery comes in four trims, the SE, a new member of the line-up, the all-new Landmark Edition, the HSE and the HSE Luxury, each of them with configuration options worthy of the luxury SUV brand. The line-up is available with two powertrain configurations: a 3-liter, supercharged V6 gasoline engine that puts out 340 HP at 332 lb-ft of torque and 3-liter, turbocharged, diesel V6, capable of 254 HP at a torque of 443. Both versions are linked to an eight-speed automatic with manual mode and paddle shifters and all trims are all-wheel drive.
Land Rover has always strived to create vehicles that offer a superior driving experience and the new Discovery is true to that commitment. The full-time four-wheel drive features Land Rover’s much appreciated Terrain Response system for a driving experience that exceeds all expectations even on the most difficult terrain. The air suspension available as optional is capable of raising the body to give it the extra clearance it might need to get around on rocky land and the impressive off-road geometry offered makes the Discovery great fun to drive and truly strong and reliable off-roader.
All new Discovery models are hard-working – the entry trim and the two HSE trims are able to tow 7,716 lbs, the Landmark packs a lot more, being able to tow 8,201. All members of the line-up can carry huge weights on the roof as well (the maximum static roof load is 275, while the dynamic load that the Discovery can carry on the top is 176).
Exterior Features that Make the New Discovery Stand Out
The exterior of each new Land Rover Discovery features the well-known, instantly recognizable, impressive, boxy body, with slight differences across the range. The entry-level trim comes with 19-inch, automatic headlights, a panoramic roof, heated power mirrors and wipers equipped with rain sensors; the HSE trims add one inch to the diameter of the wheels, fog lights and LED illumination, while the Luxury trim stands out with elegant accents, such as chromed door handles. Safety Features that Make Off-Roading on any Terrain a Breeze

The wide array of safety features includes adaptive cruise control, automatic braking, traffic sign recognition and lane-keep assist, stability and traction control with roll mitigation. The cabin is lined with multiple airbags, in the front, on the sides as well as. Blind-spot assist and auto-dimming mirrors on the exterior are standard even on the base trim.
